Newport renown for its festivals, including classical, jazz, and folk music, cinema, arts and crafts, as well as its world famous yacht races, and tennis championship matches is replete with cultural institutions, parks, and recreational facilities including the Newport Casino-International Tennis Hall of Fame, New York Yacht Club, International Yacht Restoration School, and white sandy beaches.

 

Driving Directions

 

From New York and Connecticut

Take Interstate 95 North to Route 138 East (exit 3A in Rhode Island). Follow Route 138 East for 13 miles, passing the University of Rhode Island, and turn left at Route 1/138.
Continue along Route 138 East for 2 miles and take the 'NEWPORT/JAMESTOWN BRIDGES' exit (138 East). Cross both bridges and take the first exit off the Newport Bridge. Turn right off the exit ramp ('SCENIC NEWPORT') and drive straight through the first set of traffic lights. At the second set of lights, turn right onto America's Cup Avenue, heading toward the center of town, then follow directions below, under: 'In Newport'

From Boston and Points North

Take Interstate 93 South to Route 24 South (exit 4). Follow Route 24 South to Route 114 South (Route 114 South is called 'WEST MAIN ROAD' in Middletown, and 'BROADWAY' in Newport).
Just after the Newport City Hall, turn right onto Marlborough Street. Proceed to the traffic light at America's Cup Avenue. Turn left onto America's Cup Avenue, then follow directions below, under: 'In Newport'

From T.F. Green Airport, Providence, RI

Follow signs to Interstate 95 South. Take I-95 South to Route 4 South (exit 9), which merges into Route 1 South.
Follow Route 1 South and take the 'NEWPORT/JAMESTOWN BRIDGES' exit (138 East). Cross over both bridges and take the first exit off the Newport Bridge. In Newport

Follow America's Cup Avenue, passing Bannister's Wharf on the right, to the traffic light at Thames Street. Go straight through the light, up the hill, at which point America's Cup Avenue becomes Memorial Boulevard. Follow Memorial Boulevard uphill to the traffic light at Bellevue Avenue. Turn right onto Bellevue Avenue, heading south on Bellevue Avenue toward the 'Gilded Age' mansions. After traveling about 1 mile, turn left onto Victoria Avenue at the street clock.

The first ornate gate on the left is the main entrance to Vernon Court. Parking is available on the right opposite the main gate in the Frederick Law Olmsted Park.
