The display of intellectual property on the web has raised some issues on how
copyright is controlled in this medium. We work closely with publishers,
artists, estates, and other museums regarding the imagery which we have on display
in the Museum, the Museum Shop, the website and related print materials.
Please note well that there are some websites which make copyright claims for
which the rights belong to others, and in some cases the implication is that
their copyright (for their digitized images) is The Copyright. This is not true.
The copyright of the underlying artwork is usually claimed by the heirs of the
artist in images which have not fallen into the public domain. It is worth
repeating that the copyrights claimed on some other internet websites of individuals
and/or corporations are the copyrights for their own digitized version of the
respective image only.
